MPH Program Overview
West Virginia University offers MPH programs in a number of different specializations, allowing students to assume leadership or research roles in nearly any field of public health available. Additionally, they allow students to enroll in an online MPH program although it is only available in the Public Health Practice concentration. This online option is offered by only a few colleges around the nation and is designed to provide students with the skills they need to thrive in the field.
MPH Curriculum and Courses
The MPH curriculum is influenced by the area of concentration one selects from the available concentrations. All areas of study will draw from the five main areas of study that influence public health, which are:
• Epidemiology
• Biostatistics
• Occupational and Environmental Health
• Health Policy, Management, and Leadership
• Social and Behavioral Sciences
In addition to choosing to specialize in one of these areas, students can also choose to concentrate on the field of Public Health Practice. As mentioned above, this last specialization is also available through an online MPH program. Core curriculum will consist of the above five programs and then shift in focus based on the concentration chosen.
MPH Admissions
Those applying to the program will need to follow a two-step application process involving:
• Completion of the School of Public Health MPH Application
• Completion of the general WVU Application
Students are chosen based on a number of different factors including experience, undergraduate degree held, undergraduate GPA scores, and more.
