MPH Program Overview
The primary goal of the MPH program at the American University of Beirut is to prepare you, a public health professional, to be competent to investigate the most critical public health problems, so that you can eventually develop and evaluate key programs that will be able to promote and advocate for the public health needs of at-need populations in Lebanon and in countries in this area of the world.
The major advantages of this international MPH program are a focus that is highly interdisciplinary, a very high level of academic excellence and rigor, and a high degree of relevance to this part of the world.
The MPH here is focused on what causes good health and disease, advocacy and intervention, and also the importance of analytical thinking to solve public health problems.
MPH Curriculum and Courses
The MPH curriculum at this international university consists first of core competencies in the most critical areas of public health. These core areas include:
- Biostatistics
- Epidemiology
- Environmental health
- Health management and policy
- Research design
- Communication
Next, you need to focus your studies on a particular discipline of public health:
- Epidemiology and biostatistics
- Health promotion and community health
- Health management and policy
Last, during this two year program you will have the chance to practice the skills and knowledge that you acquire during your classes through the completion of a public health research project.
The total course load for this program is 42 credit hours.
MPH Admissions
To be considered a strong candidate for admission into this MPH program, you need to have a strong academic record in your undergraduate work. Generally, you will need to have at least a 2.75 GPA from a fully accredited university. Other essential requirements include excellent references, a strong resume, three years of work experience, and a strong statement in writing about your public health goals.
MPH Tuition and Financial Aid
There are a limited number of partial and full scholarships that are available for students who are from the Arab part of the world and want to earn their MPH. There also are some graduate assistantships available to qualified students. The cost for this program is $749 per credit hour
