MPH Program Overview
Wright State University offers the first MPH program in the Southwest Ohio region and it utilizes an interdisciplinary, community based focus that relies on several colleges and schools within the overall system. Students can select from four different areas of specialization and can be completed within two years if enrolled full time. A web based learning system also helps to provide a better understanding of the subject matter, though the majority of the classes are taught on the campus.
MPH Curriculum and Courses
As mentioned above, the MPH program allows students to select from several different areas of specialization. These include:
• Global Health
• Health Promotion and Education
• Emergency Preparedness
• Public Health Management
These four specializations feature numerous courses related specifically to the area of concentration, but they share a core curriculum. Core classes make up fifteen of the forty two credit hours and are:
• Public Health Epidemiology
• Biostatistics for Health Professionals
• Health Management Resource and Policy
• Environmental Health
• Social and Behavioral Determinants of Health
Additional classes based on the student’s concentration make up eighteen of the credits and the student then completes a practice placement and culminating experience.
MPH Admissions
Students must gain acceptance into the WSU Graduate School and then accepted into the MPH Program. Requirements for acceptance include a number of different things that include:
• 2.7 or higher GPA
• GRE Scores of 350 Verbal and 455 Quantitative
• Two letters of recommendation
• Bachelor’s or higher degree
• Current resume or CV
• Personal statement of overall career goals and the program’s impact on them
• Completed application forms and fees
MPH Tuition and Financial Aid
The MPH program charges a program fee of 145 dollars per credit hour along with the standard graduate school tuition rate of 564 dollars per credit hour for residents and 961 dollars per credit hour for nonresidents. Loans, grants, scholarships, assistantships, and other financial aid programs are available for students who need it.
