MPH Program Overview
The MPH Program is designed as a professional campus based program that allows students to find leadership and research based positions in numerous fields involving public health. The MPH program provides three concentration areas for students to consider and each one involves 42 credit hours of study culminating with a capstone project. There are also numerous dual degree programs available from the school including the MD/MPH and the DDS/MPH, as well as many more.
MPH Curriculum and Courses
There are three main concentration areas within the MPH program:
• Epidemiology
• Global Health
• Community and Population Health
Each of these three concentrations involves a core curriculum made up of programs like biostatistics, epidemiology, public health communication, and more. There are 17 credits earned through the core courses and then a number of specific courses related to each of the concentrations listed above. Additionally, the six hour capstone experience culminates the student’s studies. Each of these programs is designed to provide a full educational experience and fully prepare students for their careers.
MPH Admissions
The University of Maryland employs an online application process to simplify the entire process for students. A PIN number and password will be assigned and students will be able to work on the application as needed, with all information entered saved for later completion. Requirements for admission include:
• Bachelor’s or higher degree
• Statement of intent
• Biology and social science undergraduate coursework
• College level algebra
• Solid GPA average
• Letters of recommendation
MPH Tuition and Financial Aid
Tuition costs for the MPH program are around 946 dollars per credit for out of state students and 527 dollars for instate students. The school also features numerous options for financial aid including mentorships, assistantships, scholarships, and more. Those currently employed may also find that their employer provides tuition assistance in some cases.
