MPH Program Overview
The MPH program offered by Southern Connecticut State University provides health professionals with an education that will help them find employment in nearly any location and in numerous positions. The goal of the program is to help students learn to analyze public health issues and design programs and policies that will help address those issues. The program is a classroom based MPH program that features hand-on training and internships in order to graduate.
MPH Curriculum and Courses
The program is made up of several core classes including:
• Public Health Research
• Health Behavior
• Public Health Administration
• Epidemiology
• Foundations of Public Health
• Program Planning and Evaluation
Along with the core classes, students also must choose a specialization such as Health Promotion. This will include classes related to the chosen specialization. Electives help round out the basic program, and then the student must complete a Cultural Competency Training Workshop as well as a thesis and a public health internship. The total credits for the program will be 48.
MPH Admissions
Students must turn in several application forms during the application process. These include:
• Screening Matrix Form
• Letters of Recommendation
• Current Resume
• Personal Essay
• Graduate School Application
• Transcripts from Undergraduate studies
The admissions board will review the information and elect whether or not to admit a student. Obviously high GPA and GRE scores are preferred for admission into the program.
MPH Tuition and Financial Aid
Numerous financial aid options exist to help pay for the MPH program. Grants, loans, and scholarships are available to qualifying students, and in some cases employers offer assistance or reimbursement on tuition costs as well. Full time fees for graduate programs are 9,477 dollars for a full year for instate students and 20,460 dollars for out of state students for a full year.
