MPH Program Overview
The MPH program from Oregon Health and Science University provides an in depth education on the challenges that lie in the public health field. This program focuses on the use of quantitative methodology for researching health issues and developing programs that confront those issues. It’s fully accredited and offered through an inter-institutional alliance between OHSU, Portland State University, and Oregon State University. The program is a classroom based one and takes two years for full time students to complete. It has been ranked second in the nation in both 2007 and 2003 and was ranked eighth in 2000. In other words, it’s one of the best programs available.
MPH Curriculum and Courses
The MPH program here is made up of sixty credits and includes numerous core classes including:
• Health Systems Org
• Epidemiology
• Principles of Health Behavior
• Biostatistics
• Concepts of Environmental Health
• Ethics and Epidemiology
Additionally, numerous electives will be taken as well and an internship and thesis are required to complete the program. Numerous organizations exist to allow students to complete their internship.
MPH Admissions
Admission into the MPH program here requires completion of an undergraduate course in statistics as well as possession of any undergraduate degree from an accredited school. Additionally, the following should be met:
• GPA of 3.0 or better
• GRE scores of 153 verbal, 148 Quantitative, 4.5 Analytical
• MCAT score of 24 total, eight or higher in each category
Those who don’t speak English as a first language must also score high on the TOEFL exam.
MPH Tuition and Financial Aid
Tuition fees for the Oregon Health and Science University are 34,316 dollars for in-state students and 48,545 for out of state students. These are full time tuition costs – part time ones will be based on credit hours. There are many financial aid options that financial advisors can help you find.
