MPH Program Overview
Des Moines University offers an online mph degree or a campus based mph degree curriculum. It’s available in a full and part time design as well, and is focused on letting current working professionals get the skills that they need to excel in this fast growing area of medicine. Those who graduate the program will be able to take part in research as well as implementation of programs that focus on increasing public health. Education, prevention, and enhancement programs are all part of the program and careers are available in the private and public sectors for those who graduate from an MPH program.
MPH Curriculum and Courses
There are several different courses that make up the core of the MPH program from Des Moines University. These include:
- Basic Statistics and Research
- Overview of the US Health Care System
- Survey of Human Health and Disease
- Public Health Law, Ethics, and Policy
- Health Services Program Evaluation
- Community Research Methods
Along with these classes, an internship and a public health capstone will be required as well. Those with clinical experience may be able to bypass some aspects of the curriculum, though it will be up to the instructor as to whether or not they are allowed to do so.
MPH Admissions
There are several requirements that one will need to meet in order to be accepted into the Des Moines University MPH Program. These include:
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school
- 3.0 GPA during Undergraduate studies
- While not required, preference will be given to those with experience in public health or in the health care field
- Strong verbal and written skills
- Completion of all application documents and forms.
MPH Tuition and Financial Aid
Tuition costs for full time students are 522 dollars per credit hour, and the fee is the same for a part time student. However, books and other materials will usually come close to that. Financial aid including grants, loans, and scholarships are all available for those in need of them.
