MPH Program Overview

The Master of Public Health at National University is designed to prep students for leadership roles in health promotion and disease prevention with an emphasis on the application of the wide-ranging, modern-day skills needed for problem solving in today’s public health environment. Special attention is also given to the development of communication skills necessary for work with diverse populations.

Upon completion of the program, graduates will have enhanced their opportunities for professional development and job placement through internships and a multidisciplinary team-oriented capstone experience. In addition to this hands-on experience, MPH graduates from National University will be proficient in analyzing and interpreting health data, evaluating environmental factors that affect community health, analyzing all internal aspects and policies of health care organizations, and applying concepts of social justice as well as social and behavioral sciences relevant to identifying and solving public health problems.

The National University MPH program is offered in an online setting.

MPH Curriculum and Courses

In order to complete the Master of Public Health program at National University students must complete each of the following core requirements.

  • U.S. Healthcare System
  • Biostatistics
  • Epidemiology
  • Theories of Health Behavior
  • Public Health and the Environment
  • Public Health Research methods
  • Public Health Internship
  • Public Health Capstone

In addition, students must choose one area of specialization and complete 8 courses within that area of study. Areas of specialization include:

  • Specialization in Health Promotion
  • Specialization in Healthcare Administration
  • Specialization in Mental Health

Altogether the National University MPH consists of 16 courses totaling 72 quarter units.

MPH Admissions

Admission to the MPH program at National University is based on the student’s academic record in previously attended institutions, test results, interviews, relevant professional work experience, work-ethic, and educational objectives.

Qualified applicants can begin coursework any month of the year, depending on what courses are being offered at the students learning facility of choice for the given month. National University graduate applications are reviewed year round.
